The shoppers of Boroondara have spoken and Ashburton Meats has won the prestigious John Reddish Award for the City’s most outstanding customer service.
The awards, now in their fourth year, cover 25 strip-shopping centres across Boroondara, from Ashburton in the south to Harp Village in the north.
They are named in honour of local resident and long-time Kew Rotary member Dr John Reddish and celebrate traders who go the extra mile for their customers.
More than 130 residents nominated 49 local businesses, with Ashburton Meats claiming the first prize in a pool of nine finalists. They accepted the trophy and $500 cash prize at an awards ceremony on Wednesday 12 October.
Ashburton Meats is a popular winner and does a great deal of work to support their local community, including providing local schools with complimentary sausages for sausage sizzles and raising money for charity.
In fact, they recently used their customers’ favourite soup recipes to create a recipe book. The proceeds from this project were donated to The Edge Charity, which helps local children go to kindergarten, school, sporting excursions and camps.
As well as their charitable work, the butchers at Ashburton Meats are well known in the area for being very friendly and taking a keen interest in their customers’ lives. It has become a community hub in Ashburton.
“All corners of Boroondara feature great shopping strips and, in today’s competitive marketplace, providing excellent customer service has never been more important,” Mayor of Boroondara, Councillor Nicholas Tragas said.
“I regularly visit many local shopping precincts and I am consistently impressed with the quality of service and dedication that traders’ display.
“I will always return to shops where I am made to feel welcome and would like to congratulate Paul Klooster and his popular team at Ashburton Meats for making their customers feel at home; keep up the good work.”
The John Reddish Service Excellence Awards were sponsored by the Rotary Club Kew on Yarra and supported by Council.
